Game logo: creating and using

What a game logo is

A game logo is a caption or picture that you prepare yourself and that appears during the game — among other places at the start and at the end of the game. It is not the Familiada app logo: if you do not choose your own, the game will show the default logo.

You create and store logos on the My logos page. You can assign a different logo to each game Saving, choosing and displaying a logo.

The Display has 150 × 70 dots. Something that looks good in high resolution can become unreadable once turned into dots. Thick shapes, large letters and high contrast work best — thin lines and small details usually disappear. Check the result with the Preview button.

Note

Logos are created on a computer or tablet. On a phone you can browse the list of logos, but the editor is not available.

The logo editor is unavailable on a phone

Creating a text logo

  1. On the My logos page, click the "New text logo" tile, enter a name for the logo and confirm.
  2. Type the caption (for example "FAMILIADA").

The caption is shown in a font like the classic Familiada logo. The "Width: …/30" counter shows whether the caption fits on the Display. The Allowed characters button shows the characters you can use. A caption that is too wide or contains characters that are not allowed will not be saved — the app will point out the problem.

If you want the caption in a different typeface or with extras, use a drawn logo Drawing a logo.

Drawing a logo

Click the "New drawn logo" tile. You draw on the canvas in two colors — black and white; the white elements will light up on the Display.

You also have: zooming the view in and out, the canvas background (black or white), line thickness and style, fill, Undo, Redo, Duplicate, Clear and Preview — which shows how the logo will look on the Display.

Useful shortcuts and rules:

  • Delete (on a Mac Fn+Backspace) or × in the options bar removes the selected elements; Clear removes the whole drawing after you confirm.
  • Ctrl+Z (⌘Z) undoes, Ctrl+Shift+Z or Ctrl+Y redoes, Ctrl+D duplicates; Ctrl+0 resets the zoom to 100%, and Ctrl + plus and Ctrl + minus zoom the view in and out.
  • L — line, R — rectangle, O — ellipse, P — polygon, U — next shape, F — fill; and change the thickness of the line or eraser.
  • The arrow keys move the selection by 1 dot, or by 10 with Shift. Holding Ctrl temporarily switches to the Pointer.
  • Holding Shift draws a square or a circle, and a line or arrow snaps to 15° steps.
  • Press Enter to finish a polygon, Esc to cancel it, and Backspace to remove the last point.
  • Undo and Redo work within the current editing session — when you reopen the logo, the history starts from scratch.

Keyboard shortcuts do not work while you are typing text.

Creating a logo from an image

  1. Click the "New logo from image" tile and choose Choose image — a JPG, PNG, GIF or WEBP file, up to 5 MB.
  2. Set the crop: the frame on the "Display area" card shows the part of the image that will appear on the screen. You can rotate the image by 90° and straighten it.
  3. Adjust the look with the sliders: brightness, contrast, gamma, black, white and dither (the graininess of tonal transitions). Invert swaps light and dark areas, Reset undoes the settings.

The image will be turned into Display dots. On the host screen it can appear in its original form Saving, choosing and displaying a logo.

Saving, choosing and displaying a logo

Saving. The logo saves itself while you work — there is no "Save" button. Changes are also saved when you leave with the Back button.

The "My logos" list. For the selected logo, Edit, Preview, Duplicate, export to a .famlogo file, Import and Send — a copy for a friend Sending a logo — are available. You rename a logo by double-clicking it (on a phone, tap twice), and delete it with the trash icon. Don't edit the contents of .famlogo files by hand — importing such a file may fail.

Choosing a logo in a game. You choose the logo in Game settings, in the "Logo" section — "Default" or one of yours Display.

Choosing the logo and “Host logo” in the game settings

How the logo looks during a game:

  • The Display always shows the logo made of dots, because it is a dot screen.
  • The host screen — depending on the "Host logo" setting Display:
    • "Pixels" — the same as the Display,
    • "Source" — a text logo as a caption in the style of the Familiada logo, a logo from an image as the original image, a drawn logo as a smooth drawing in the dot color.

The logo appears at the start of the game, and at the end if you set the end screen that way Additional settings, Ending the game.

The logo on the Display

Locks. Editing a logo and playing a game exclude each other: while you are editing a logo, you cannot open the control panel or game settings, and during a game or while game settings are open you cannot edit or delete a logo. The app will show the reason — finish one activity and go back to the other. A waiting page loads by itself once the other activity ends Problems with games and resources.
